Clement Desalle second in Latvian qualifying

Clement Desalle of the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team will go to the gate second in tomorrow's Latvian round of the FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship at the rugged Kegums track.

The 28 year old Belgian quickly established himself in second place in the Qualifying Race and vehemently repelled all challengers to retain that position to the chequered flag, eventually building a two second advantage over his chasers. With the choice of an inside gate tomorrow, he can confidently expect to again be at the forefront of the action in both points-scoring races around the energy-sapping sand track.

Clement Desalle: “My qualifying race was better than expected, as I always try to save some energy for race day! My feeling was much better during the race than during the practice sessions, and I got a great start in second position; I had some pressure from behind, but I could stay second to the finish. Two times I made a small mistake and Febvre passed me, but I passed him back in the next corner each time. The track was rough, and for sure it will be even rougher tomorrow, but it will be the same for everybody and my Kawasaki proved today that it can handle it well.”

In the MX2 class Ruben Fernandez raced to his best Qualifying result of the season in eighth place. The Spanish teenager charged from fourteenth on the opening lap of the twenty-four minute race, advancing almost every lap during the first half of the race to reach seventh position on lap eight of twelve, only losing one position on the penultimate lap to the rider who currently holds third in the world championship standings.
