Brian Moreau qualifies sixth in China

Brian Moreau qualified his Bud Racing Kawasaki sixth for the final round of the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship on a purpose-built track just outside the Chinese metropole Shanghai.

The French teenager needed time to settle on the loose-surfaced track built on a clay base and fifteenth time in practice gave him an outside gate for the twenty-minute-plus-two-laps Qualifying race. Overtaking did not prove easy on the man-made track but, emerging from turn one just outside the top ten, he soon started to move methodically forward and by the finish had advanced to sixth, less than three seconds shy of fourth, to earn a good gate-pick for tomorrow's GP motos.

Brian Moreau: « At last a good qualifying race for me! I struggled during the practice session and didn’t got such a great start but I was able to come back into the top ten already on the first lap. After that I tried to avoid any mistake as the track was soft and slippery in some places; I made some good passes to finish sixth so tomorrow I will have a much better gate for the GP motos. I want to end my GP season on a high note and I’m really motivated for this last race. »

The F&H Racing Team duo of Roan van de Moosdijk and Adam Sterry started side-by-side in seventh and eighth and held station for a couple of laps until the Dutch teenager, pushing hard to pass into the top six, slipped off and, losing twenty seconds to remount, rejoined the race fourteenth. Running podium lap times he had advanced back to tenth by the finish. Sterry moved into the top six four laps from the end but a minor slip one lap later cost him a place to finish seventh.

Adam Sterry: "The dirt is really deep and that makes it difficult with my size. My start was quite good actually but I was too far out at turn one and lost some positions. I could make some quick passes but then I got stuck behind Evans and used up all my laminates and one small crash lost me a place. I'm good for tomorrow, but I need to make quick passes."

Roan van de Moosdijk: "The speed was there all day but my start was not the best. I could quickly close to the leaders but I slid out the front wheel going for sixth and bent the clutch lever. I just need to avoid crashes tomorrow."
