New Circuit For Kawasaki Duo

FIM Supersport World Championship contenders Can Öncü and Yari Montella will face an all-new challenge when they arrive at Donington Park for the fifth round of the season, given that neither of these young Kawasaki Puccetti Racing riders have competed at the British circuit before.

The WorldSSP championship has had a four-week break in competitive action since Puccetti’s home round at Misano; a gap which has only sharpened the motivation of both Can and Yari to get back into full racing mode.

As things stand Can is fourth in the overall championship fight and the top Kawasaki rider. Yari, in his rookie full WorldSSP season, is up to sixth place after four of the scheduled 12 rounds.

Öncü has taken two podium finishes already in 2022 while Montella has come close to the top three at Estoril, and has posted six top ten finishing positions in eight individual races.

The 4.023Km Donington track is a true classic, first used in the 1930s and then rejuvenated in the 1970s. It was the host venue for the first ever WorldSBK Championship race weekend, back in 1988.

Shortly after the Donington event WorldSSP will head for the sixth round of the championships, to be held at Most in the Czech Republic between 29 and 31 July.

Can Öncü, stated: “After a month’s break I’m happy to be racing with my team and my Kawasaki again. I don’t know this English track, so I’ll need to work hard right from first practice to get to grips with it. My team knows it well though, and this can really help me. In the last races we didn’t score the results we deserve and so I hope to achieve solid results at Donington.”

Yari Montella, stated: “I’m curious to learn the Donington track, one that looks tough but also a lot of fun. I know my team has done really well at this circuit in the past and so they also have a lot of data, which will be very useful in helping me to be competitive right away. I think we can do well because we’ve been consistently improving recently. We need to carry on working on the set-up of our Ninja ZX-6R to achieve the kind of results that both the team and I deserve.”

First year WorldSSP rider Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) approaches Donington tenth in the championship in his rookie year.

Tom Booth-Amos (Prodina Racing Kawasaki) will race at his home round at Donington, as he recovers from injury.

Ben Currie and Jeffrey Buis (Motozoo Racing by Puccetti Kawasaki) will also compete at Donington, with Currie already an experienced British Supersport competitor.
